Macedonian Ethnic School “St. Kliment Ohridski”
Rockdale
The Macedonian Ethnic School “St. Kliment Ohridski” in Rockdale was opened in 1979. The school is mainly financed by the parents and is receiving help from the Department of Education NSW.
The initiators for opening of this school were Tode Kabrovski, Pasko Grbevski, Jone Kokalovski and Gorgi Businovski, and the first teacher was Radmila Spoa.
The school started operating with 30 students.
In 1980, the school had 55 students and 2 teachers: Tode Kabrovski and Radmila Spoa.
Between 1981 and 1983, the school had over 100 students. The teachers were: Ljubica Seljankovska, Ljubomir Serafimovski and Rose Petkovska.
From 1984 to 1994, there were also over 100 students. The teachers then were: Vera Bosevska, Tode Kabrovski and Zora Dimik.
A great contribution since 1994 till today, has been given by the following teachers: Cveta Cumkovska, Menka Mladenovska, Zora Janeva, Galina Todorovska, Zora Macevska, Dragica Simovska, Snezana Miladinova and Dragana Bozinovska.
The Macedonian Ethnic School “St. Kliment Ohridski” is open every Saturday during the school terms from 1:30pm until 4.30pm. Currently the school caters for around 48 students between the age of 5 and 14 years old from year K-6 who learn Macedonian language in 3 levels:

  • Beginners (5-6 years old)
  • Beginners (6-10 years old)
  • Intermediate / Advanced level – to 14 years old

Children enjoy learning about the sounds and rhythms of Macedonian music. They learn to talk, listen, read and write and to create and interpret texts. Role-playing and games are frequently used strategies, which help keep the children actively involved. There are themes such as Macedonian culture and legends, history, poetry, literature and other creative arts: Macedonian drama and art, significantly included in the curriculum.
